Summary
Janet longs to go to Carterhaugh. When she does, she plucks roses and meets Tam Lin. They argue, he takes ahold of her and lays her on the ground. When she returns home, she's pale and green. Her father asks if she is with child, and she replies that no man present is responsible. She returns to Carterhaugh, seeking herbs, which causes Tam Lin to appear again. She says she would keep the child if it was by a mortal man. He instructs her how to win him her a husband, by holding onto him as he transforms. She does so, and takes him home.

Shall give the babe his name?" - "Oh father, if I go with child

There's none among your gentlemen

I must bear the blame

And then appeared Tam Lin again
Says "Lady, pull no more. - "What makes you pull the poison rose?

What makes you harm the little babe
That I have got with thee?" - "Oh I will pull the rose, Tam Lin
And I will break the tree
But I'll not bear the little babe
That you have got with me - "If he were to a gentleman
And not a wild shade,
I'd rock him all the winter's night
And all the summer's day" - "Then take me back into your arm
If you my love would win
And hold me tight and fear me not
I'll be your gentleman - "But first I'll turn change, all in your arms
Into a wild wolf
But hold me tight and fear me not
I am your own true love - And then I'll change, all in your arms

Version Notes
Notable for omitting any mention of Faeries, Halloween, or rescue of Tam Lin. He undergoes transformations to be able to leave with Janet, but there's no indication he was endangered previously.
It's also not clear in this version if Tam Lin is human, faerie, or even alive. Janet identifies him as a 'wild shade', which he does not contradict.
